Marymere Falls Framed By Ferns

Marymere Falls Framed By Ferns

It’s Waterfall Wednesday! So here’s a photo I took during my recent trip to Olympic National Park. It’s Marymere Falls, an easy .7-mile (one-way) hike on a well-trafficked trail behind the Storm King Ranger Station just a hop and a skip from Lake Crescent Lodge.

I talk about photographing Marymere Falls as well as Sol Duc Falls in my next installment of the Armchair Photography Guide for Olympic National Park, to be published Oct 1st in the National Parks Traveler site, so be on the lookout for Part 2 – The Forests. I mention this now because I’ll be in Yellowstone National Park at that time and don’t know what kind of internet service I’ll have around there.

In the meantime, this shot, taken at the upper level of the overlook, demonstrates the “silky water” technique and making use of the surrounding ferns for natural framing around the photo subject.

Your Armchair Photography Guide To Olympic National Park, Part 1 – The Beaches

A Kalaloch Beach Sunset

The National Parks Traveler has published my latest photography article: Your Armchair Guide to Olympic National Park, Part 1 – The Beaches. I had to break this guide into 3 different parts because this park has it all: beaches, forests and beaches. If you are planning a trip to Olympic anytime soon, or are just interested in seeing the photography of this national park, then click on the image above.

Your Armchair Photography Guide To The North Cascades Complex

Blue Green And Gray

Scenery in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, North Cascades Complex

It’s been awhile since I last penned an Armchair Photography Guide. I write these guides for those people who can’t or don’t wish to hike way out in the backcountry to get beautiful images of a national park they visit. While I am an SLR gal, myself, I know there are those out there who are happy with their smartphones or point-and-shoots, so I write these guides with that (mostly) in mind, since I truly want people to get beautiful shots of their national park adventure.

This latest guide is of the North Cascades Complex in Washington state. To read the article, click on the photo above.

The Bryce Canyon Armchair Photography Guide

Monsoon Rains Over Bryce Amphitheater

Every morning (even when on the road) one of the first things I do after waking up and dressing is to post a photo on the National Park Traveler’s Instagram account @national_parks_traveler. To do that, I go online to the Traveler’s site to see what photo I have in my library might fit with one or more Traveler articles. It was then that I saw my latest Armchair Photography Guide had been published. For this month, the Armchair Photography Guide features Bryce Canyon National Park. So, I posted a shot of Bryce Canyon on Instagram, and, if you want to go check out the article, itself, then just click on the photo above (and maybe check out the Traveler’s Instagram account, too, while you are at it).
