    I just read your article. Thank you for sharing the information about your subject, and for including tips on camera settings and getting permission to use the photos in publications. When in doubt, where do you start inquiring about who has the authority to give such permission?

    • Hi Diana – Generally, I look to talk to either the announcer/MC or someone standing close to the stage who is talking with the performers. That person may not be the one in charge, but it’s a start and maybe they know with whom I might need to speak. In the case of the hula demonstration, the Harmans already had gotten their students to sign waivers regarding photography, so that made it easy for me. Nonetheless, I would have never known that had I not asked for permission.
